    FAQ’s

    To plan your journey by car or public transport using a journey planning website; simply enter your postcode and ours, which is LA6 2AU to get directions. The nearest railway station is Oxenholme, which is 11 miles away or a 15-minute car journey. Taxis are available from the station. The nearest bus stop is 160 m/ 174 yards from the Inn- the nearest stop is called “Market Square”. There is a regular bus service to and from Lancaster, Kendal and Settle, each service is approximately every two hours but do not run in the evenings.

    If you are booked to stay overnight, you can pull into our luggage drop-off point by the side of the inn whilst you are checking in you will then be given your FREE parking permit to be used in many car parks in and around Kirkby Lonsdale. Directions to the parking areas will be given on check-in. If you are coming for a drink or to dine, there are three pay and display car parks in Kirkby Lonsdale where you can park at a reasonable cost. You are welcome to use our drop off point to drop off other members of your party.

    Please consider reserving a table in the restaurant on any or all of the evenings you are staying as the restaurants in Kirkby Lonsdale are often busy, particularly on Friday & Saturday nights. It may be better to book and then cancel if your plans change. You can book a table online here. You will need to add card detils to reserve the table or it will be automatically cancelled.

    We guarantee to have your room ready by 4.00pm. If you arrive earlier it is likely your room will be ready, if not we can take your luggage and store it for you. If you have booked a deluxe room it will be ready for you by 2.00pm. Check-out on your day of departure is 11.00am

    The Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale is a superb dog-friendly place to visit. We welcome dogs in our bar, dog friendly dining area and in some of our bedrooms. You can find more information here. For dogs that stay over night we charge £20 for 1 dog or £30 for 2 dogs.

    You cancel you room reservation by email or telephone at anytime. If you are able to give us 14 days notice we will refund your deposit. If you have to cancel within 14 days of your visit then we will try to re-let the room and if we are able to do so we will refund your deposit. If you have to cancel on the day of your arrival it will result in the 1st night of stay being charged in full. Christmas (24th-26th Dec), New Year (30th Dec- 1st Jan) and group bookings (over 4 rooms) require 12 weekslonger notice of cancellation in writing for deposit to be refunded, please see our terms and conditions below. We are not able to offer a refund or provide a refund in the event of adverse weather conditions which might affect your travel. We do not offer refunds or change of dates for COVID 19 related illness. We suggest that you take out suitable travel insurance in the event that you need to cancel your stay.

    The Sun Inn is a totally non smoking environment. For safety and comfort of all our guests the bedrooms are non-smoking. If you choose to smoke in the bedroom there will be a £50.00 charge to cover the additional cleaning expenses

    Vouchers can be used to pay for accommodation, food or drink at the Sun Inn. They are valid for a period of 12 months and show the expiry date. We do not take vouchers to secure room bookings, a 35% deposit is charged on a card. We do not extend vouchers beyond the expiry date issued.

    Booking Terms & Conditions

    All our rooms are double rooms and are available for single occupancy. Please contact the inn for single occupancy rates.

    We usually only book Saturday night as part of a two night weekend break, either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday.  Occasionally we may have a Saturday night available for one night at late notice.

    During bank holidays there is a 3 night minimum stay.

    We guarantee to have your room ready by 4.00pm on your day of arrival. If you would like to arrive earlier then let us know at the time of booking and we will arrange this for you. Check out time is 11.00am.

    So that we do not retain customer’s credit or debit card details we take a 35% deposit to make a room reservation.

    Cancellations

    • Cancellation in writing up to 14 days prior to date of arrival – deposit refunded
    • Within 14 days of arrival – deposit only refunded if we can re-let the room(s)
    • Christmas (24th-26th Dec), New Year (30th Dec – 1st Jan) require 6 weeks notice of cancellation in writing for deposit to be refunded.
    • Group bookings (over 4 rooms) require 35 days notice of cancellation in writing for deposit to be refunded

    Information that we collect from you

    Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you. You may share your information with us when filling in forms on our website, making purchases on our website, contacting us with us by phone or e-mail, using our restaurant or rooms booking system, joining in our social media.

    We may receive information about you indirectly if you use a third party to make a booking, for example Bookings.com.

    The information you give us may include your name, address, e-mail address and phone number, financial and credit card information.

    Using your information

    We fully comply with the applicable current data protection laws and will hold your information securely. Your information may be used for the following purposes:

    • to provide you with the information requested from us, relating to our services
    • to meet our contractual commitments to you
    • to notify you of any changes that may affect our service
    • As a previous or existing customer, we may contact you with information about services you have expressed an interest in. These messages can be stopped at any time by following the opt out links on any marketing message sent to you or by emailing us at any time.

    The only parties we may share your personal information with are:

    • Our employees who process the information provided by you for the purpose for which it was made available.
    • Service providers who provide IT and system administration services
    • With trusted third party agencies who process data on our behalf for us to comply with the law e.g book-keeping and accountancy to fulfil HMRC requirements.

    How we store your personal information

    we are required to retain basic information about our guests for six years including contact, financial and transaction data.
