We’re exceptionally proud to fly the flag for dog-friendly accommodation in the North West.
Our passion for pooches is easy to see at the Sun Inn. Head Pooch, Charlie, is always on-hand to greet guests – both two-legged guests and four-legged guests!
The cosy bar and dog-friendly dining area is frequently filled with lots of happy doggies enjoying curling up in front of the fire after a long walk. We even have a special dog shower outside in case they’re muddy!
In fact, we love dogs so much that we’ve been working in partnership with Animal Rescue Cumbria over the last year to raise as much money as we can (£600 and counting) for dogs (and cats) in need. We’ve done this through sales of our mouth-watering homemade dog biscuits (available to buy in the bar) and through organised dog walks.
It’s always lovely to receive a nod of recognition in our mission to offer tail-wagging, pooch-approved accommodation to people wanting to enjoy a fabulous UK staycation in our gorgeous market town of Kirkby Lonsdale.
You might’ve heard that we were recently shortlisted by The i Paper for ‘Dog-Friendly Accommodation of the Year’ in their Staycation Awards, from a selection of more than 1,000 nominations!
To add to this, the Sun Inn was previously named as one of the top 10 most dog-friendly venues in the UK by Country Life magazine. We also received a Highly Commended award from Visit England’s 2016 Awards for Excellence in the Dog-Friendly Business of the Year category.
Pets are a vital aspect of what we stand for, here at the Sun Inn. So we are absolutely delighted to have been featured in Pets at Home magazine as one of the best places to visit with your dog! The piece also includes a photo of our lovely walking tour guide Loren Cafferty’s beautiful springer Toby. This picture was taken before Loren (and Toby) were getting ready to lead our customers on another guided walk around Kirkby Lonsdale to raise money for Animal Rescue Cumbria.
Speaking of the dog-friendly offerings at the Sun Inn, Iain Black (who owns the Sun Inn with his wife, Jenny), said: “We pride ourselves on offering our guests a memorable experience when it comes to getaways with their four-legged friends. We’re a nation of dog lovers, and we believe that you don’t have to put your dog in the kennels to enjoy a nice getaway – you can bring them with you so they can enjoy a lovely holiday too!
“Every aspect of the Sun Inn as a restaurant, bar and boutique inn has been created with our dog-friendly offering in mind. Well-behaved pooches are more than welcome in our bar area, where they can enjoy special homemade dog biscuits. We also have a dog-friendly dining area next to our restaurant, where visitors can dine with their best friend by their side. Overnight guests receive a complimentary ‘pooch pack’, with a towel, dog bowl, special treat and a dog trail map.”
